The exotic East immediately envelopes the audience when Jennifer Chang and her gu zheng, the 21-string Chinese zither, take the stage.  Ms. Chang began studying traditional Chinese music and gu zheng performance with grand masters in China when she was 12 years old.  As a gu zheng soloist, she is in demand around the world as a teacher and performer.  In addition to solo appearances in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, she has performed as the soloist for the Emperor of Japan and for former President Bill Clinton.  In 2001, Ms. Chang moved to the U.S.  As a guest musician, she has performed with the NC Symphony, the New England Orchestra, the Raleigh Civic Orchestra, and the North Carolina Ballet. 



She has also served as the artistic director and conductor of the former Carolina Chinese Orchestra and The RTP Chinese Music Ensemble https://youtu.be/GxbKJQv83wQ 

In 2016, Ms. Chang started the Chinese Music Ensemble course for the Department of Music at Wake Forest University and is now teaching the Chinese Music Ensemble course in the Department of Music at Duke University.
